“Harmonika Fest” is the first International Accordion Music Festival in Montenegro. It was founded in 2010 in Cetinje, where it was held until 2014. Since then, the festival has welcomed participants and audiences in the beautiful coastal town of Tivat. “Harmonika Fest” is a professional event that promotes accordionists of all profiles and fosters artistic accordion playing. The festival is organized by the Non-Governmental Association “Harmonika Montenegrina” from Podgorica. The festival featured performances by the world’s most important names in the field of classical accordion: Yuri Šiškin, Sergej Osokin, Renco Ruđeri, Pavel Fenjuk, Vladimir Murza, Petar Marić, Nikola Peković, Semjon Šmeljkov, Roman Žbanov, Dominik Emorin, and many others. As part of the festival, prominent world artists also perform at full-length concerts, such as Stjepan Hauser, one of the most successful cellists of today, who held a concert in 2010 at the first edition of the festival. An important segment of the festival is also made up of master classes for students of lower and secondary music schools, as well as for students from the Academy of Music from the accordion department. Lecturers at the workshops are eminent professors who work at the most prestigious Music Academies in Europe and the world. Since 2014, we have included a new segment within the festival - the International Competition in the disciplines: accordion solo, chamber music and orchestras. It is also the first international competition for classical accordion in Montenegro. The exchange of knowledge, practice and experience, as well as getting acquainted with domestic and international trends in contemporary concert and pedagogical practice for the accordion, is the primary goal of this project. Unlike many Western European countries where the accordion is experiencing a real expansion, in our region its treatment has been unfairly neglected compared to some other instruments with a greater musical tradition. Accordingly, this project will, by bringing together the most famous creators from the world of accordion art, present the most significant musical, technical and technological potential of the modern accordion in all musical genres. In this way, we will undoubtedly contribute to a better presentation of the instrument. The great cultural, educational and psychosocial importance of the festival forms the basis for our ideas, for the purpose of promoting classical music on the accordion, to become reality.
