On October 10th, the evening at SlovoNovo will feature an unusual format—a musical lecture. Polina Fradkina @polinafradkina. "The Role of Dissonance in Music and Life" October 10th, 9:15–10:30 PM 📍 Tivat Cultural Center, Montenegro A musical lecture about how to stop expecting "perfect harmony" and find support within chaos. Polina has previously presented this topic at TEDx, but at the SlovoNovo forum, it will take on a new meaning, in the context of a discussion about how culture helps people find themselves and build connections in emigration. After all, it is dissonance—discord, clash, tension—that becomes part of our lives when the familiar world collapses and the new world has not yet taken shape. Together, let's explore the role dissonance plays in our perception of the world and ourselves; - Why dissonance irritates us so much: both in music and beyond. - We'll trace the history of dissonance: from the ancient Greeks to the present day. - We'll discuss whether music can help us accept the contradictions and conflicts we encounter when we transcend our familiar boundaries. Polina will perform excerpts from music by Rameau, Beethoven, Schoenberg, Cage, and others.
