Iranian musicians living in Vienna form the Golnar & Mahan Trio, which will perform on April 22 at the KIC “Budo Tomović” as part of the 18th edition of the Jazz Appreciation Month in Montenegro – JAM 2025, which is held under the motto “Jazz East & West”. A day later, on April 23, Golnar and Mahan will perform a duo concert at the Ministry of Culture and Media of Montenegro, at 8 p.m. Offering a masterful and fresh approach to the art of musical storytelling, the Golnar & Mahan Trio combines elements of contemporary jazz, Southwest Asian microtonal modes, polyrhythmic rhythms, European chamber and experimental music, to create an original sound. A sound that elegantly attracts the attention of a new generation of creatives in the European diaspora, whose approach and cultural references confront the ear accustomed to what contemporary music could and should be. The trio improvises their way through structured compositions, powerful rhythms and the most delicate sounds in a masterful way that makes it difficult to notice the complexity of their music. A deep sound that consciously avoids clichés and frames to blend into a genre-free space, where the power of musical storytelling is celebrated in an extremely authentic way.
