Description
On the National Day of Montenegro, July 13, the traditional opening ceremony of KotorArt - Don Branko's Days of Music will be held on the square in front of the Cathedral of St. Tryphon. For the first time, the Festival Orchestra of Montenegro will perform as part of the opening ceremony, which will be joined on stage by the Kotor City Music, the traditional female vocal group Đude, the Štiglići klapa, and the fiddler Nikola Krivokapić. The ensemble will be led by the new co-artistic director of KotorArt Don Branko's Days of Music and the chief conductor of the orchestra, maestro Mladen Tarbuk. The opening ceremony, entitled "Bridges of Music", marks the 200th anniversary of the birth of Johann Strauss II, the legendary king of the waltz. This event also promotes the Montenegrin and regional musical heritage of that time, as well as the contemporary expression of prominent Montenegrin composers. The concert will feature some of Strauss's famous waltzes, along with compositions by lesser-known authors from Montenegro and the Western Balkans, who created music influenced by the style of this composer. The third segment of the program brings the premiere performance of new compositions by Montenegrin authors Nina Perović and Milivoj Pićurić. Through the interweaving of tradition and contemporary creation, the program represents a centuries-old musical thread and symbolically highlights the influence of musicians from the then Austro-Hungarian Empire on the musical life of Montenegro and the region, as well as the dialogue of European, Montenegrin and regional heritage, affirming the creative potential of today's Montenegro. The International KotorArt Festival is being held for the 24th time, from July 13 to August 13, under the patronage of UNESCO, the Ministry of Culture and Media and the Municipality of Kotor, the support of the European Union, the gold sponsor Coca-Cola, then significant sponsors Luštica Bay, Porto Montenegro, Erste Bank, Montenegro Sotheby's Realty, Uniqe and many other significant sponsors and a wide network of partners from the country and abroad. Additional information about the planned festival programs can be found on the Festival's website
