Description

Ivan Velikanov on the organ (portative) and Aleksandar Starkov on the harpsichord will hold a concert of early Gothic music from the 13th-15th centuries on Friday, June 20 at 7 p.m. at the Co-Cathedral of St. Peter in Bar. On Sunday, they will perform at the Church of St. Jerome in Herceg Novi, and on Monday at the Church of the Holy Spirit (concert hall of the Music School) in Kotor. The program is dedicated to three major turning points in Gothic music: the Ars Antiqua of the 13th century - early Gothic of the Notre Dame era, the Ars Nova of the 14th century - the rise of Gothic art in the music of Guillaume de Machaut and Francesco Landini, and the Gothic of the late 15th century - the era of Guillaume Diffé and virtuoso keyboard compositions from the Buxheimer Orgelbuch and Codex Faenza collections. The duet of two ancient keyboards in an authentic style complements the vocal duet, as well as the rich acoustics of Montenegrin churches and cathedrals. Ivan Velikanov is a conductor, composer and multi-instrumentalist with international experience and deep knowledge of historical musical traditions. He is the founder of the first Russian ensemble for historical wind instruments Alta Capella, and performs on the organ, harpsichord, organ (portative), cornet and other rare instruments. In addition to the world stage, he has organized many concerts of early music throughout Montenegro, where he decided to continue his creative career. Aleksandr Starkov is a multi-instrumentalist and improviser, inventor and creator of numerous unique musical instruments. A pianist by education, he gave up the modern piano and created his own keyboard. The crystal-clear, ethereal sound of the harpsichord with hammers – a rare string instrument from the Renaissance – enchants music lovers with its bright, plucked tones. This tiny keyboard by modern standards is a true relic of musical history, and is reminiscent of the earliest periods of music played on keyboards.
